This my report about How Ireland celebrates Christmas.
One thing is they put a lighted candle in the window, to welcome Mary and Joseph as they traveled looking for shelter. The candle was a indicator that this was a safe place for mass, in Penal times it was not allowed. The candle was only to be lit by the youngest in the house hold named Mary. After the evening meal on Christmas eve they would lay a loaf of bread caraway seeds and raisins a pitcher of milk, and a big lit candle. They take the door of it's hinges, so if Mary and Joseph, or any one walk by could avail of the welcome. Holly is a main plant of forest in Ireland on Christmas. All decorations most be taken down on little Christmas (January 6) it is considered bad luck if taken down beforehand.
Nollaig Shona Duit That is how people in Ireland say Mary Christmas.
